Description from Amazon.ca
In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history.
Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.
My Thoughts
As the description states, this really is Britney’s story from her start in the music industry all the way through to the end of her conservatorship. It was interesting to see the beginnings of where she came from and how she got her start. I found myself at times thinking could this really be an accurate account? But we all have to remember; our perceptions are our reality.
It was hard to believe that during her pregnancy and after, no one saw or turned a blind eye to what for me seemed obvious for post-partum depression. It was also hard to believe, being a parent myself, how her family treated her.
The overall story line was interesting but at times I questioned whether it really was that way. At times there was a tendency to jump around which was a little hard to follow. I did find myself having to go back and reread. I wish she would have told more of the story behind how the conservatorship even came about and how her father came back into her life. The chapters are short which made it a fast read. Overall, I did enjoy it and I believe she told her story not the one media made up.
