Description (From Amazon.ca)
Can Willow let go of her fears and begin living her life again, or will her issues get the better of her?
Willow Green is having a hard time of it. Losing her job at the beginning of the pandemic and her elderly grandmother’s ‘clinically vulnerable’ status have resulted in her becoming housebound. While her entrepreneurial, hard-working spirit and the knowledge passed down through generations of green witches in her family mean she has solved her employment problem, her fear of going out, of allowing the dreaded virus into the house she shares with her grandmother, is far from resolved. In fact, it seems worse than ever.
That is, until Joe Lane comes along. The handsome care worker turned delivery driver does Willow a favour, gaining her attention and reluctant admiration. He’s got plenty of baggage of his own, but he also has the skills and temperament to help her with her problem—and he really seems to care.
The question is, will she let him get close enough to try?
My Thoughts
The story takes place post pandemic where the world is back to normal with the one exception, Willow. She has is having a hard time not wanting to go beyond the safe zone of her home. Her fear, should she go out, something bad might happen. You see, her grandmother is immune compromise, the risk is too high…. or so she thinks.
It isn’t until Joe Lang comes along that Willow realizes it is her own fear that has paralyzed her and kept her in the confines of her of own home. Will she take that leap?
Not That Kind of Witch is a standalone M/F steamy contemporary romance. I felt the title is a little deceiving as it indicates, in my opinion, the story is more about a Witch and/or witchcraft. Yes, there the story does touch on it but it really isn’t the main focus. I was a little disappointing as I thought here might be a little bit.
I did like the storyline overall and how it focuses on the stressors of the post pandemic world along with some very real consequences. Yes, it is a “steamy” but it actually came out of nowhere and towards the end. Considering Willow was really focused on “germs” it felt a little out of place for someone with that degree of fear. It might have been a better if it was mixed into more of the beginning of the story.
Having said that, I did enjoy it.
