Book Description (Amazon.ca)
They say you can’t go back home, but Marin Sinclair, end-of-life doula, doesn’t expect her life to be in danger when she answers a mysterious plea for help from a long-ago friend and returns to Dinetah, the Navajo Nation. Her past there holds memories she is reluctant to confront, but what about her life then would make someone want to kill her?
Navajo Nation Police Sergeant Justin Blue Eyes shares a connection with Marin from the past, and he has a few questions of his own when Marin disappears―such as why the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has agents investigating the abandoned uranium mines on the reservation and how Marin is connected.
Marin needs to survive to find any answers, and to do so she is forced to run, going off the grid on her own in the Lukachukai mountains with unknown killers close behind.
My Thought
Rabbit Moon is the first book of the Marin Sinclair series. Marin continues to have the same disturbing dream and makes a promise to one of her clients before his death. She intends to return to Dinetah to help an old friend but something tells her not to. She ignores those feelings only to realize she should have listened.
Ms. Payne is a new to me author and one I will definitely follow and continue to read, especially this series. This novel grabbed my attention right from the prologue and held it right until the end. It was ne of those books I actually had to make a point of putting down or I wouldn’t sleep. The writing is incredible and so well done. I am a big fan of mystery and thriller and when I can’t figure out the ending until the end, you know it is a great book. There are so many twists and turns, it makes you think and wonder “why”.
There is the story within the story bringing past and future together. This can be hard to do but Ms. Payne has done it seamlessly. It is easy to follow and answers a lot of questions. The character development flawless. I did have to say “crap” at the end only because now I have to wait. What a cliffhanger! Highly recommend!
