There are so many books out there and sometimes that’s exactly the problem. I’ve had moments where I’ve sat there scrolling through recommendations, saving lists, opening tabs and still not knowing what to read next.
It starts to feel less like something enjoyable and more like something you have to figure out. Over time, I’ve realized something simple. Finding your next book doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t have to come from a “must-read” list or what everyone else is talking about.
It just has to feel right for you. Here’s what’s helped me simplify it:
- I pay attention to what I’m in the mood for. Some days I want something light. Other days I want something deeper.
- I follow the feeling, not the trend.
- I also stopped forcing myself to finish books that aren’t connecting.
That alone changed everything. Because once you let go of that pressure, reading becomes enjoyable again.
One thing I started doing that helps is thinking about the last book I loved. Not just the title, but why I loved it. Was it the pacing, the emotion, the characters? That usually leads me in the right direction.
And sometimes I just pick something without overthinking it, because not every book has to be perfect. Sometimes it’s just about starting.
If you’re trying to find your next read trust your instinct a little more than the list.
