I didn’t expect writing to feel this hard again.
I think part of me thought I would just pick it back up and fall into it the way I used to. That the words would come easily, and I’d feel confident in what I was putting down.
That hasn’t really been the case.
Some days I sit down and don’t know where to start. Other days I write something and immediately question if it’s even good enough to keep going.
But I’m starting to realize something. Writing isn’t about getting it right the first time. It’s about showing up anyway, even when I don’t feel like it.
Right now, I’m learning how to be okay with the messy part of writing. The part where things don’t flow, where sentences feel off, and where I’m not sure if any of it is working. I am trying to stay with it a little longer, even if it’s just a paragraph and an idea for an awesome character.
I’m also noticing how much reading is helping.
When I slow down and really pay attention to what I’m reading, I start to see things differently. How a scene is built. How dialogue feels natural. How some stories stay with you longer than others.
It’s changing how I think about my own writing. Not necessarily in a way that makes me feel behind, but in a way that makes me curious again. I think that’s what this season is really about for me. It’s just getting back to something I love and have been missing.
Learning, trying, writing and that is okay for now!
